Project Overview
Still, We See is Fotophase's inaugural exhibition exploring photography's role in healing, transformation, and well-being.
Presented at the Rangefinder Gallery at Tamarkin Camera, the exhibition brings together twenty-four photographers whose work reflects on memory, identity, illness, trauma, resilience, and personal transformation. Each artist contributes a single photograph, revealing the many ways photography can deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
Developed by Fotophase, the exhibition is part of a broader initiative advancing photography within the emerging field of neuroarts, examining how artistic experiences influence the brain, body, behavior, and emotional well-being.
The opening reception featured artist talks alongside Fotophase co-founders James Rice and Dr. Gene Beyt, exploring photography as a tool for healing, perception, and human connection.
Artist Statement
Before the camera was ever lifted, the woman in this portrait and I shared a smile.
For a brief moment, there was no photographer and no subject—only two strangers meeting with openness and curiosity.
Years spent documenting some of the world's largest stages taught me that the photographs that stay with us rarely come from extraordinary moments alone. They emerge through presence, curiosity, and a willingness to slow down before raising the camera.
Photography has become more than a profession. It is a way of moving through the world—with greater awareness, empathy, and connection.
This portrait reflects that philosophy. It is a reminder that photography is not simply about seeing, but about creating space where people feel truly seen.
